There are many gatherings and conventions in the calendar of a motorhome owner. One of the more exciting of these events is the National Feast of Lanterns. This is an annual camping rally that brings together campers, caravanners and motorhome owners to enjoy four nights of entertainment. The roots of this event date back to 1922 when the Feast was first held. The gathering gained international support in 2014 from the Federation Internationale de Camping, Caravanning et Autocaravanning. One of the largest federations in concerns to camping and caravanning, it represents federations and clubs from around the world and promotes camping across the globe. 2015′s theme is ‘Celebrate Your County’.
This year, the event takes place in Norfolk from the 27th of August to the 31st, based in the beautiful grounds of Houghton Hall. Boasting an array of attractions, there is plenty to keep guests entertained and occupied.
There are a number of traditions that make the event stand out. Firstly is the traditional Mardis Gras parade. The tradition of lanterns is still kept intact, with attendants illuminating their units with various lights. Attendees can also enjoy participating in crazy golf, graffiti boards, Punch and Judy and much more, with entertainment from Brenda Collins, Norfolk Falconry and the Folk Dance and Song Group. Trade stands are also set up for traders to display their products, with companies such as Swift, Cadac, Calor and Sewing Sew already confirmed to be attending and many more expected to be announced over the coming weeks.
The event is only open to members of the Camping and Caravanning Club, though FICC members are also invited to partake. If you own a motorhome or a caravan, then it is definitely worth taking a visit to the event if possible. It will provide you with a week of entertainment and fun, surrounded by kindred spirits who also share a passion for the outdoors.
