History lovers and tourists flock to famous London buildings on a daily basis and one of the most popular destinations is undoubtedly the Tower of London. There are few buildings that have such a vast history of imprisonment and execution and for those who are interested in discovering the rich and colourful history of one of the nation’s most formidable structures the Tower is sure to be just the ticket.

Comprising 12 different towers and first established by William the Conqueror, the Tower offers almost 1000 years of bloodstained history. It has housed some of the most famous names in British history from Guy Fawkes to Queen Anne Boleyn, the ill-fated second wife of King Henry Vlll. The beheading of Anne led to her role as a key figure in the social and political uprising that resulted in the Reformation. The Tower was even used to incarcerate notorious East End twins Ronnie and Reggie Kray in the 1950s.

The Tower today is of course home to the Crown Jewels which have been displayed there since 1969. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the country and is home to the ceremonial regimental headquarters of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and popular ceremonial guards, the Beefeater Yeomen Warders.

There are several places that cater for motorhome travellers that are looking for cheaper stays in or around the capital. Abbey Wood Caravan Club Site is situated a mere 10 minutes from a train station and offers clean and well maintained facilities. It features a play area for the children, accommodates late night arrivals and is perfectly located for visiting the historical sights of the capital city.
